Habia Skills Academy Launches Skin Cancer Awarness Campaign ...

The Habia Skills Academy (HSA) have launched a campaign to raise awareness of skin cancer amongst industry professionals, who can then pass on potentially life-saving guidance to clients.

The Skin Cancer Awareness campaign comes with the backing of leading industry organisations and skin cancer charities and aims to raise awareness of the signs of skin cancer amongst salon and spa professionals.

Skin cancer, or melanoma, is one of the fastest growing cancers amongst young people and yet can be effectively treated if caught early.

The HSA have produced leaflets, a smartphone app, promotional materials and a Learning Support Unit which will be used to teach learners about skin cancers.

The campaign was originally proposed by Si?n James MP, who chairs the Parliamentary Melanoma Taskforce.

She said: "Professionals in the hair and beauty sector can play a key role in spotting the signs of skin cancer as they see peoples' skin all the time. We want to take forward the guidelines the Taskforce published so that professionals in these industries can begin to make a real difference and play their part in improving outcomes for patients and saving lives."
